THE ARTIST
Gretchen
Anne Martin, currently a resident artist at
the Bell Arts Factory, has been an artist
since childhood. Her professional career started
in 1994 when she began sculpting and painting
prototypes for toys at a small company in
Hermosa Beach, Boggs & Lambur Studios.
There, she met artist and business collaborator,
Scot Wester Williams of Ocean Rhythms.
Gretchen left Boggs & Lambur Studios to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Theater Arts at UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television. She continued to work as a freelance artist through school, building a clientele. After graduation, Gretchen started her own business, Little Pearls Studio, offering creative services to corporations, small businesses and private clients.
She chose the company name because “Gretchen” means “Little Pearl.” Gretchen designed the symbol of the mermaid with the pearl to further personalize the business name by depicting her fondness of the ocean, sea life, and water.
Through Little Pearls Studio, Gretchen is able to work on her own projects, as well as with other artists on larger projects. Projects include prototyping services to inventors, sculpture, molding, casting, painting, graphic design, copyrighting, among others. Her client list includes Jakks Pacific, Mattel, and Angelettes of California, Inc.
THE BUSINESS
Gretchen has teamed
up with Scot Wester Williams to combine
talents and business services as needed.
Through Little Pearls Studio, Gretchen and
Scot are able to offer artistic services
on a larger scale, while building Ocean
Rhythms, LLC, a surf and extreme sport product
company that strives to give back to the
community and the ocean by giving back to
the environment. Ocean Rhythms sculptures
have supported Surfer's Healing, a foundation
helping kids with autism, as well as the
Orange County Arts, and recently, the Rabbit
Kekai Foundation. Scheduled beach clean
ups will be organized to clean up the coast
as well as raise awareness of environmental
issues. These clean ups will be advertised
at the Bell Arts Factory, on Little Pearls
Studio and Ocean Rhythms websites, as well
as through the various shops that carry
Ocean Rhythms products. Please sign our
guest list to be added to our future Beach
Clean Up Crews.
